When correctly installed, Midland Lead's BBA approved machine cast lead provides a 60-year guarantee as standard.
Our machine cast lead comes with CE mark BS EN14783 showing that it is a ‘fully supported metal product to be used for roof coverings and for claddings or linings’.

Our machine cast lead now has a BRE Global Environmental Product Declaration. An EPD verifies that the environmental performance and impact of our lead has been independently verified across its entire product life cycle.
In 2024 Midland Lead were honoured with The King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development. We’re so proud that our journey to become a sustainable manufacturer has been recognised at such a high level.
Midland Lead has met or exceeded at every regular BBA inspection since 1986. Our BBA certification also assures that the lead we supply is:

· Subject to spectro-lab analysis to ensure it meets the required standards
Midland Lead is certified for BS OHSAS 18001 (now replaced by international standard ISO 45001) – a management system framework that helps organisations achieve the best possible standards for compliance, workplace conditions and health & safety
The goal of the LCA is to promote quality craftsmanship, high standards and professionalism in the installation of lead sheet used in roofing and cladding.

From July 2025 our lead is covered under the Lead Contractors Association (LCA) Members 25 Year Insurance Scheme, marking the first time machine-cast lead has been included. New installations by eligible LCA members will offer a 25 year guarantee of workmanship and material for leadwork projects
The NHBC is the UK’s leading independent provider of warranty and insurance for new-build homes. The NHBC’s purpose is to raise standards in house building by championing high-quality homes and protecting homeowners. Representatives from the NHBC regularly inspect Midland Lead production processes to ensure our lead sheet meets their standards.
BBA (British Board of Agrément)
The BBA is the UK’s major approval body for new construction products and installers. The BBA certification assesses adherence to the following standards of excellence, which Midland Lead has met or exceeded at every regular inspection since 1986:
Weathertightness – all correctly installed lead products should provide resistance in any weather conditions
Resistance to wind uplift – lead should resist the effect of strong wind suction when fixed securely
Properties in relation to fire – our BBA approved lead is non-combustible
Durability – when installed by a professional, Midland Lead products have a standard life span in excess of 60 years
Reuse and recyclability – all of the lead we use is 100% recycled and reused
Our BBA certification also assures that the lead we supply is:
Compliant with Building Regulations where applicable
Independently assessed regarding technical and chemical specification
Subject to spectro-lab analysis to ensure it meets the required standards
Lead manufacturers have to work hard for BBA certification! In fact, we’re re-assessed every six months to ensure we continue to meet the BBA’s required standard for 86/1764 accreditation.
"A BBA Certificate often relates to an innovative element of manufacture. But innovative process or not, our approval is granted only if a product has a level of performance at least as good as, or better than, that specified by the BS. And that's the case with Midland Lead."
Great question! Both BS and BBA are important accreditations for construction products to comply with, and BBA 86/1764 and BS 12588 share the same standard requirements. However, BBA accredited products benefit from additional requirements, including two annual external surveillance visits and a 3-year review on product quality and service levels. BBA also carry out regular internal manufacturing and handling quality checks.
High quality machine cast lead from Midland Lead is supplied with BBA 86/1764 accreditation, whilst high quality rolled lead sheet has a British Standard 12588.
