Lead bricks for radiation protection

Where higher levels of radiation protection are required, lead bricks are a great choice. Our lead bricks have been used to create robust shielding systems in gamma knife radiosurgery units, nuclear applications, High Dose Radiation (HDR), Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and multi-modality rooms. In this type of environment, the level of radiation protection typically requires lead >10 mm thick – making lead bricks the most practical choice.

bespoke sized bricks

We supply lead bricks in a range of standard sizes

Need bespoke sized bricks for your project? No problem, we do that as well.  For safety and ease of on-site construction, our lead bricks are typically kept to a manageable weight of 5 kg but in some cases can weigh up to 26 kg. Again, we’re flexible to meet your project requirements and our technical experts are here to help you with expert advice.

Be assured that all the lead bricks supplied by Midland Lead meet BS 4513 standards for use in lead shielding, and BS 3909 standards for ingot lead for radiation shielding.

Lead chevron bricks

Lead chevron bricks – packed for ultimate protection

Also known as chevron blocks or interlocking bricks, these are designed with interlinking v-shaped edges to eliminate potential leakage at corners, edges or curves.

This design feature provides a very flexible construction system, where complete wall or ceiling projects can be built to almost any size, shape or thickness. By building in several layers, lead chevron bricks allow constructions of over 50 mm thick to meet even the most heavy-duty radiation safety requirements.  Complete bunkers can be built using lead chevron bricks, for use in linear accelerator treatment facilities, proton beam therapy units, PET/CT facilities or brachytherapy suites.

Our lead chevron bricks are manufactured to ISO 7212:1986 or ISO 9401-1:1991, dependent on thickness.

Lead chevron rails

Extruded lead chevron rails

Adding further construction flexibility, extruded lead chevron rails can be fixed to existing brick or block walls, or used to create a free-standing shield structure 9 mm to 20 mm thick. Here, the rails interlock tightly together to prevent leakage and work seamlessly with lead or lead chevron bricks.
