Bespoke radiation protection & training for 12 different hospitals across Liberia
In 2017, 12 hospital sites across Liberia were prioritised to receive funding to modernise their x-ray facilities, bringing them up to Western standards. There was a significant challenge however - the local workforce had neither the skills nor the tools to carry out such specialist work. Midland Lead were drafted in to advise and we were happy to work with representatives in Liberia to provide technical advice and expert guidance. Once each product specification was agreed, we appointed Bob Kerr, a qualified RPA from RP Alba Ltd, to carry out training on the ground in Liberia.
All products provided were bespoke to each of the 12 different facilities, including 447 lead-lined gypsum boards (2.0m x 600mm with a 1.80mm lead shield), 12 mobile radiation screens, 13 lead-lined doors and lead sheet for jointing strips and electrical box sealing applications.
Meeting the specifications, providing the lead-lined products and training the local workforces at twelve different sites was a logistical challenge! But Bob overcame all barriers, developing clear guidance and working closely with the local workforce to give them the confidence and skills to carry out the work to a high standard.
